Journalism
"I try to use my past experience
as an international journalist when I am
screenwriting and directing - not just in terms of the
characters in the story, but in being able
to see the story through the eyes of different
audiences."
Korean rioters in Seoul;

Brendan has written features for national
and international mainstream and business
publications for 15 years. He has worked
in 55 countries, covering people, business
and conflict in all parts of the world.
For example, he has covered business in
the United States, landmine clearance in
Angola, oil spills in Alaska, riots in Korea,
the Colombian drug war, life in Kazakhstan,
Cola-wars in Kuwait and marketing in Morocco.
People always want to talk about
the conflicts, and they were certainly memorable
experiences, but much of the material that
helps me when Im screenwriting or
interviewing comes from past features on
ordinary people who take pride in their
skills and look after those around them
from glass craftsmen in Waterford
Ireland, to a hospitable shepherd in the
Atlas Mountains, from those rescuing sea
otters in an Alaskan oil slick, to those
who hold together overstretched hospitals
in all corners of the world
Brendan previously represented London
on the National Executive of the NUJ, the
world's largest journalist's organisation.
He has taught feature-writing to hundreds
of journalists. His own features have won
awards from the UK Press Gazette and PR
Week.
